Now Pulsing: 2018 Santa Cruz Film Festival

The fifth annual Santa Cruz Surf Film Festival is set to hit town like a two day pulse of clean fall season swell. Running through the weekend of October 5th and 6th 2018, it’s a fun event that aims “to spread the stoke that we get from surfing, bringing together surfers, filmmakers and ocean enthusiasts to share stories, ideas and history in one of the most beautiful surf towns in the world.”

On offer is a wide range of cinematographic style, theme, and content. From deep stories of therapeutic transformation through surfing (Time Well Spent, and EMOCEAN) to short films about chasing waves, dreams, and individual perspective, there’s no shortage of variety. It focuses on legends of the sport in the full-length feature Momentum Generation and upstart pioneers in shorts like Changing Point.

Like any good film festival, there’s more to it than images on a screen. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to Surfrider Foundation. Also, according to the Rio Theater website there will be “Goodie bags and giveaways at each screening, plus the chance to win great raffle prizes as part of your ticket price – including Yeti coolers and gear, O’Neill wetsuits, Kala Ukuleles, a custom Bona Fide wetsuit, SurfEars earplugs, Active Skin Repair for athletes, Pleasure Pizza gift certificates and more!”

All screenings will be held at the Rio Theater, 1205 Sequel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA.
