Rob Machado Styles A Win At The 2017 Cosmic Creek

Cosmic Creek is more of a gathering of the tribe and reflection on retro vibes than full-blown surf competition. The format of the event is unique – requiring entrants in the pro division to draw cards to see who gets first choice of a supply of 1970s and 80s single fin and twinny surfboard designs. They then take to the water in what amounts to a glorified expression session until one is deemed the winner. This year it was Rob Machado as the coronated stand-out. Other divisions at this year’s Cosmic Creek included Creators and Innovators, Locals, and Body Surfing.

Along with an exploration of surfing’s heritage, the event included live music by DIIVCosmonauts, and After School Special. Equipment demos from the likes of Danny HessHaydenshapes, Donald Brink, Jeff McCallum and DaFiN were on also offer, while provisions were provided by ShwackZICO Coconut Water, and Stumptown Coffee Roasters.

To keep things environmentally sustainable Mizu partnered in, offering stainless steel bottles for competitors and refilling water stations while Surfrider Foundation was listed as a sponsor of the event.
